Research Technician in Aging Research-University of Cologne, Germany

The mission of the Cologne Excellence Cluster on Cellular Responses in Aging-associated Diseases is to unravel the common molecular mechanisms underlying life span regulation and aging-associated diseases to set the ground to achieve its long-term objective of developing novel therapeutic interventions. CECAD is a unique research venture unifying researchers at the University of Cologne with those at the Max Planck Institute for Biology of Aging.

We are seeking a bright motivated individual with managing skills to fill the Technical assistant (“Technische/r Assistent/in”) (39,83 hours/week) position in the CECAD laboratory of Prof. Thorsten Hoppe (www.genetik.uni-koeln.de/groups/Hoppe) at the Institute for Genetics  working with Caenorhabditis elegans as a model organism.

The position is immediately available and preliminary limited in time for three years. Depending on the conditions of the German TV-L the salary can reach E8-Level.

Tasks:

The technician will use and assist with techniques and tools of modern biochemistry, molecular and cellular biology (protein and DNA/RNA purification, cloning, quantitative PCR, sequencing, cell culture techniques, Western Blots, fluorescent microscopy) to investigate ubiquitin-dependent protein degradation pathways during normal development and aging using nematodes as a model system. She/He will perform genetic crosses and maintain a C. elegans lab stock collection. She/He will also be responsible for basic aspects of lab management and everyday organization.

Prerequisites:

The applicant should be a qualified BTA, MTA or CTA and have previous laboratory experience with basic biochemistry and molecular biology techniques. Knowledge of genetics is very welcome.
